Key Publications was born many years ago, actually when I attended college at Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo.

I had big dreams back then I guess. Actually, Key Publications has always been a vision of mine, a key to unlock the universe's secrets.

I remember the day that I heard the track on my Kansas album, Questions of my Childhood. I guess I always had many questions, but that is when I discovered the golden key.

 "Can you get me through these changes?

Well I sure don't know about life

But one thing for sure

All I need is you (baby)

We can find the golden key to unlock the door"

Ah yes, to be young again.

But A Quest for Freedom represented a journey for me, a journey through the writer's muse unlike any writer's muse.

My writing did not fit into an easy author slot. I admit it. I was always a dreamer. I always believed in the good in people.

You see, in 1976, I began writing "The Jungle."

That evolved into "Brother" in 1978.

I trashed that completed draft in 1979.

In 1982, upon graduation from college I happened to have to give my next door neighbor a ride and when I asked him his name, he said, "Zeke, that's all you need to know."

I sat down and wrote the first scene to a fantasy novel, A Golden Key.

I was set to visit my Grandmother Wilmes and my Aunt Helen shortly after that and when I shared off the top of my head my desire to write a novel, my Aunt Helen had a two word response.

"Why not?"

The words that launched my ship in the direction of a lifelong journey of writing, journaling, and trying to grapple with the larger issues of life such as grief, love, loss, faith, and hope, most of all hope.

Yeah, in 1984, my draft of this novel had stalled out, but as I resumed my career after hitting pause when my late mother was diagnosed with terminal colon cancer, I finished the rough draft in a flurry of inspiration.

I didn't know it at the time, but this novel served as the launch pad for a much more profound calling - the writing of a very personal true story - Beyond the Horizon, Crisis of Faith, published in 2015.

Oh yes, there was so much in between.
